5 Ways to Be More Active in 2020

 

Many of us live lives where we sit a lot. We sit at a desk, in front of the TV, at the kitchen table, and so on. Sitting isn’t terrible for you, but the truth is that many of us could be more active in our lives. It is especially important for older adults to stay active so that they continue to be healthy. Check out five ways you can be more active in 2020.

Walk When You Can – Many of us are used to getting in the car to go everywhere, but the truth is, there are probably some places we could walk instead. Could you walk to the grocery store to pick up a couple of things? Could you walk when running some of your errands? Walking is a great exercise and it is a great way to be active. If your everyday errands are not within walking distance, you could just go out for a walk for fun every day.

 

Stretch Every Day – Stretching is another important way to be active and keep your body moving. Many of us naturally start to stretch when we get out of bed because we have been laying down for a while, but you can stretch more than just then. Stretching throughout the day can keep your muscles from getting stiff. If you have been sitting for a while, get up and stretch out your muscles for a few minutes.

 

Volunteer in the Community – Another way to be active is to get out in the community and volunteer. Volunteering often involves being pretty active, so that can be a great way to be active and give back to the community at the same time.

 

Take the Stairs – You can also stay active by taking the stairs when there is an option. You don’t have to walk up 10 flights of stairs, but you could walk up a couple of flights to keep your legs moving.

 

Do Some Chair Exercises – Chair exercises are another great way to be more active. If you find yourself sitting a lot during the day, take some time and do some stretching and exercises in your chair.
